3 Summer Electrical Safety Tips
Summer is a time to let loose and have fun! However, it is important to keep electrical safety in mind while you sip, splash, and relax.
While you soak up the warm sun, you can easily forget about the numerous electrical safety hazards involved with summer activities. To help refresh your memory, we came up with a list of 3 summer electrical safety tips every family should be aware of.
- Electricity & Water Do Not Mix!
Keep all electrical toys and appliances away from water. This includes pools, bathtubs, sprinkles, sinks, and more. Also, do not touch an electrical toy or device if you are wet or standing in water. Electricity travels very quickly through water and can cause electrocution!
- Pools & Hot Tubs
Swimming pools and hot tubs have many electrical components. Water pumps, filtration systems, and heaters are all features of a pool. All of these electrical components mixed with the metal parts that make up a swimming pool or hot tub can be potentially dangerous. To prevent an electrical hazard, pools and hot tubs must be adequately grounded and bonded.
- Store Electrical Equipment Indoors
Always store electrical equipment indoors and never use power tools in wet or damp conditions. If you notice any exposed wires, cords, or other electrical damage, make the repair or replacement as soon as possible. Also, it’s always a good idea to use power tools with insulated grips.
