5 Electrical Safety Tips For Winter
Here are a few electrical tips to keep you and your home safe during the winter!
Inspect All Electrical Appliances
Cracked or damaged sockets, loose wires, and connections may cause a severe shock or start a fire.
Do Not Overload Electrical Outlets
Ensure all circuit breakers in the service panel are working correctly. Also, check the socket and light switch covers; if they feel warm to the touch, give us a call immediately.
Protect Electrical Cords From Potentially Getting Damaged
Cords should never be buried under rugs, pushed into tight spaces like doors or windows, positioned next to heat sources, or secured with nails or staples to prevent shock or fire threats.
Never Leave Space Heaters Unattended
High-wattage equipment like portable electric heaters run the risk of setting nearby combustible items, including curtains, beds, sofas, paper, clothing, and flammable substances, on fire.
Always Turn Off Electrical Blankets & Heating Pads Before Bed
Leaving on your blanket may cause it to overheat and catch fire. Also, never lie on top of an electric blanket when it’s turned on. Folding heated blankets and pads may cause them to overheat and burn; if it’s near a combustible item, a fire will start!
Remember that accidents can happen no matter how cautious you think you are. It is a good idea to be ready for anything.
