Faucets

Repair or replacement of any major brand faucets
These days, options for your home’s faucets are just as abundant as types of carpet, paint colors or even window treatments. Various options include single, two or three handle, pull out spray, body spray, slide bar or spa, and the list goes on.

Remember, faucets have many moving parts that can wear out or break over time. Whether converting a two-handle bathroom faucet to a single-handle faucet, installing a new kitchen sink, or replacing a worn out washer, our skilled technicians are trained to handle any type and brand of faucet repair or replacement.

Outdoor Faucets
Just as importantly, make sure you consider the exterior of your home. Are cooler temperatures and frost putting a damper on your outdoor water needs? Hot and cold sill faucets allow you to have access to warm water outside, which enables you to extend the life of your car by washing off the winter grime. Or, how about washing the dog outside during Spring and Fall when the temperatures can be on the cooler side? Contact F.H. Furr today to find out how sill faucets and anti-frost hydrants can improve YOUR outdoor living.

Garbage Disposals

A garbage disposal is an essential appliance for all kitchens. If you want a product that’s easy to install and is very reliable, F. H. Furr highly recommends the best selling disposal in the world, the InSinkErator®. The InSinkErator® features models with a 1/3 to 1 horsepower motor. Contact F. H. Furr today to help determine which size would be most appropriate for your kitchen.

Few things are more frustrating than a kitchen sink that won't drain. To help extend the life of your disposal and to avoid clogging or overwhelming it, we recommend using the garbage disposal only for light food residue rinsed from utensils and plates. Large quantities of food should be scrapped from plates and placed in the trash.

Gas Piping

Some of the greatest dangers around your home may be unseen – such as gas leaks. The gas supplied by your local gas company for your stove or heater has a strong odor added to them so you can smell leaks.

CAUTION: If you suspect a gas leak, you need to act quickly and immediately to shut off the gas supply to your house or business.

Gas leaks can lead to asphyxiation (the inability to breathe leading to suffocation) or explosions. Avoiding these unseen dangers and alerting your family to danger can be as simple as checking your appliances regularly and purchasing a few, affordable alarms.

At F. H. Furr we repair and replace all kinds of gas piping, including copper, flex, and black pipe, for both propane and natural gas applications. So whether you need a broken gas line fixed in your existing home or a new gas line added in a home being built, F. H. Furr will help guide you through the process from start to finish.

Polybuthylene Pipe

Every home has a water delivery system to get water to the various faucets throughout the home. The water delivery system is either a “Branch System” or a “Home Run System.”
  • Branch System: a single hot and cold pipe that has branches delivering hot and cold water to each fixture throughout the home.
  • Home Run System: hot and cold water are delivered through a manifold with each fixture having it’s own dedicated pipe from the manifold; no fittings between the two. This system is typically installed in log or modular homes and consists of either Pex piping or Polybutelene piping.

Polybutelene Piping: also known as ‘Quest’ piping and has a distinctive gray color. There are three types of installations for Quest piping that were all banned in 1994. These installations were the subject of a class action law suit against Dow and Shell Oil. Neither company accepted guilt for the suit but both contributed to a $950 million dollar fund for repairs and/or replacement of the product. Unfortunately, funds from the suit have run out and defective piping is now the responsibility of the homeowner.

Copper piping: copper is the most material most widely used in homes today but has issues as well. When copper comes in contact with another metal, such as steel or ductwork, a reaction called electrolysis takes place. This reaction will cause the weaker of the metals to weaken and eventually cause pinhole leaks. You will also see a green film appear around joints that can also cause leaks. Copper, being a very conductive metal, allows the electrolysis reaction to travel and cause leaks in areas other than where the metals touch.

CPVC or “Flowgold” piping: CPVC is installed In the same mannerr as copper. CPVC is a plastic but unlike Quest piping, it is not vulnerable to the sanitizing agents added in potable water.

Pumps

Sump Pumps

A sump pump are used to remove water that has accumulated in a sump pit, usually located in a home’s basement. Sump pumps send water away from a house to any place where it no longer presents a problem and are typically installed where basement flooding is a problem. Need a sump pump installed? Contact F.H. Furr to get A Plumber In Your Home for FREE, to find out what model is best for you and how much it would cost

Sewer Ejector Pump

Adding a bathroom or laundry room to your basement? If so, you will most likely need a sewer ejector pump up system. Because plumbing systems generally rely on gravity, ejector pumps are required where wastewater is unable to flow to its destination by means of gravity at a velocity of at least 2 feet per second. This means basements are prime candidates. Think you need an ejector pump? Contact F.H. Furr to get A Plumber In Your Home for FREE, to find out what model is best for you and how much it would cost.

Submersible Well Pumps

Submersible well pumps place all the major pump components at the bottom of the well allowing for greater efficiency in the operation of the motor and enabling pumping from much greater depths. Submersible well pumps do not require structures to enclose them and do not produce any surface noise. Do you have a well? Contact F.H. Furr to get A Plumber In Your Home for FREE, to find out if a submersible well pump is right for you and how much it would cost.

Toilets

Stop “flushing” money down the toilet.
There is one necessity in your home that you absolutely cannot live without…your toilet. It is one bathroom fixture that we all tend to take for granted. It is very easy to assume that the toilet will always operate properly, except for the occasional clog. On the other hand, you may have a toilet that is always causing problems and not functioning efficiently.

Does your toilet always seem to clog? Would you like your toilet to have more power when flushing? Do you think your toilet might need a repair or need to be replaced? Give us a call and we will send a trained and certified technician to your home for free to diagnose and provide you with an up-front price to solve the problem.

Clogs
Have you ever had that helpless feeling when a toilet won’t flush, and you find yourself starting to panic as the water in the bowl starts spilling onto the floor? Or, do you have a toilet that always has to be plunged on a regular basis? The most likely cause is a blockage or an obstruction in the trap or drainpipe. Our plumbing technicians will have your toilet flushing and draining properly before you know it.

Running Toilets
An easy sign to know if you have a running toilet is if you hear water running for extended time after flushing. The average water wasted by a running toilet could be up to 200 gallons of water a day. The problem could be solved by a simple repair such as a flapper, or you might need to replace the toilet altogether. Stop the frustration of having to jiggle the handle, and start saving time and money by calling F. H. Furr today.

Old and inefficient Toilets
Any toilet that was manufactured before 1994 is more likely wasting water and more importantly, wasting your money. Older toilets use 3.5 gallons of water per flush. Newer low-flow toilets, which are just as powerful, are made to use only 1.6 gallons per flush according to the EPA, which means you could save more than 16,000 gallons per year and retrofitting your whole home could save you approximately $2,000 in water and wastewater bills over the lifetime of the toilet. Call F. H. Furr and have your old and inefficient toilet replaced and start saving water and money today.

Water Heaters

Gas and Electric Water Heaters

If you own a house, you own a water heater. If you’re like most home owners, you probably don't spend much time thinking about the water heater until, one morning, you go to take a shower and there's no hot water. Then you probably think about it a lot.

Despite their almost constant use all day, every day, water heaters generally stay maintenance free for years with the average water heater lasting at least 10 years. Of course, there may be a time when you do wake up and do have a problem with the water heater. Potential problems can include:
  • No Hot Water – this could be caused by several different things depending on if you have a gas or electric water heater. Both models are designed to include built-in safety devices to ensure maximum safety for you and your home. Should you have a problem it is extremely important to have a skilled technician service your unit, despite the built-in safety features. And please, never tamper with or disable any water heater safety device for any reason.
  • Inadequate Hot Water – if your water heater is operating properly and you are still running out of hot water, the unit may not be the right size for your home. F.H. Furr’s water heater experts can determine the best model and size for your hot water needs.
  • Water leaking around base of heater – a leaking water heater is usually not a good sign, but does not necessarily mean a new unit is required. If you see any amount of water around your water heater, have it inspected as soon as possible in order to prevent further water damage or expense.

Other problems to look out for are:
  • Rust colored water
  • Rotten egg odor
  • Low rumbling or popping noise
  • Higher pitched whining

If you do need a new water heater, F. H. Furr proudly stocks major brand water heaters to serve your water heating needs. We can install a water heater that can provide hot water for every size and type of home. F. H. Furr can replace your tired or leaking water heater with a new water heater, make all necessary connections and remove your old water heater. Your shower will be nice and hot in no time.

Water Heater – TANKLESS

What is a Tankless Water Heater?

A tankless water heater is a heating unit that only heats water as it is needed – also known as on demand water heater. On the other hand, traditional water heaters consist of a storage tank that continuously heats the stored water, whether or not the hot water is needed.

How does it work?

Whenever you turn on the hot water (faucet, shower or otherwise), cold water travels through a pipe into the tankless water heater. As the water travels through the heater, it is heated by the heating elements. Your turning on the hot water acts as a key for turning on the heating element. As water pressure fluctuates, the heating elements adjust to maintain a constant temperature and maximum energy efficiency. Once you turn off the hot water, the tankless hot water heater turns off as well.

Is this more efficient?

YES! A tankless water heater only heats water as it is needed therefore only using energy when it is needed. Whereas a storage tank is heating water continuously, using energy continuously. Using a tankless water heater can lead to lower utility bills. And because a tankless water heater is not running constantly, it means less wear and tear on the unit which means it has a longer life span.

Other Benefits of a Tankless Water Heater

  • Endless supply: because water is heated as you need it, there is no waiting for the storage tank to fill and reheat.
  • Takes up less space: because there isn’t a storage tank involved, the tankless water heater takes up less space. If you are replacing an existing water heater that is stored in a closet, you could feasibly now have a new closet to store things.
  • Longer lifespan: traditional water heaters can last up to 10 years. The tankless water heater is designed to last up to 20 years.
  • Maintain efficiency for the life of the unit: unlike traditional units, the tankless water heater will maintain it’s efficiencies throughout it’s lifespan.

Water Pressure

For most of us, our water comes from a municipal water system, where it’s usually extracted from various groundwater sources and treated to remove impurities. It is then pumped to large water towers that rise above the highest delivery point in the system. Gravity provides the pressure that forces the water through the water mains and eventually into our homes.

If the water pressure entering your home varies or abruptly starts and stops you can install a pressure valve at your water entry main and check for variations in its reading – even when you’re not currently running water.

Poor water pressure can also be due to clogged pipes or people using water in the home simultaneously. A less likely cause for varying pressure could be a faulty water pressure regulator.

Well Water Pressure

If your water is provided by a private well and the pressure or flow seems to vary, start, stop, or sometimes takes hours to recover, you may have a problem with the well flow rate.

First, determine whether the main or some other water supply valve has been partially shut off. If there is not an obvious burst pipe, a faulty well pump could be the cause. If the pump is in the well, call F. H. Furr for a diagnostic test that would include measuring the amperage draw from the house on the pump circuit.
